Got a great idea for a project linking
your pupils with scientists and engineers?
The Royal Society is the UK's national
academy of science. The main focus
of the education work of the Society
is science and maths education of
pupils aged 11-19.
The Society's website includes detailed
information of its wide ranging education
events, projects and resources www.royalsoc.ac.uk.
One of the Society's initiatives
is the awarding of Partnership Grants,
with sponsorship from ExxonMobil and
the Mercers' Company, to fund projects
between teachers and practising scientists
and engineers.
The projects allow teachers to increase
their scientific knowledge and give
scientists and engineers the chance
to develop their communication skills
and engage with enquiring young minds.
They give pupils a taste of science
and engineering today, and their relevance
for society.
Any UK teacher or practising scientist
or engineer (above graduate level
in university or with appropriate
industrial experience) can put forward
a project idea for funding, as long
as the pupils involved in the project
are aged between 5 and 16 years. You
can apply for grants of between £250
and £2,500 for an investigation.
Further information and grant application
forms are available from The Royal
Society's website at http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk/education/partnership.htm.
Alternatively you can email education@royalsoc.ac.uk
or telephone 020 7451 2561 to request
an application pack.
