These are just a few of the ongoing events around the UK that link well with AKA Science. The science centre details included here do not cover all the exhibits that each centre can offer. There are many local events which you can publicise through the Science Year website www.scienceyear.com


Cheshire

The Museum of the Chemical Industry includes several permanent exhibitions and ongoing workshops for schools. Scientrific houses over 30 hands-on interactive exhibits looking at how chemicals are discovered and used. Birth of an Industry follows the development of the chemical industry from ancient times to multi-million pound empires, and Chemicals for Life looks at the vital role chemicals play in our everyday lives. Upcoming special events include Chemistry Week Lectures (KS3) and Christmas Lectures (KS4).

Bristol

Housing several exhibition areas including Explore-At-Bristol, which brings science alive with over 170 interactive experiences, such as Curiosity Zone, where you can investigate the forces of nature and experiment with light, sound and natural phenomena. Early November also sees the Special FX programme, looking at the secrets behind special effects. Facilities at the centre include an Imax theatre.

Glasgow

On the high-energy first floor interactive exhibits cover the basic phenomena of science, through exploration and discovery. The second floor looks at science in action, highlighting creativity and technology at the frontiers of development. Exhibits include a digital studio, robot host, problem solving, design and communication. Facilities at the centre include an Imax theatre.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Amongst the interactive exhibits of River of Life and Jack's Story you can explore the journey back to the beginnings of life, and then watch Jack develop from one cell to trillions in just three minutes.

London

New to the wide range of exhibits is the Darwin Centre, behind the scenes access to over 22 million zoology specimens. For school visits pupils are actively encouraged to examine specimens at Investigate, a purpose built, state of the art laboratory setting. The museum continues to support art inspired by the natural world with regularly changing exhibitions.

Many interactive, hands-on exhibits including Technology Futures, which provides a forum for the display of world class new technologies. Art is well represented by exhibitions by internationally renowned artists in three of the Wellcome Wing's galleries. Facilities at the centre include an Imax theatre.

Norwich

In addition to many hands-on exhibits, Inspire hosts a programme of live 'Science Squad' experiment science shows including E=Amazing Stuff 2 (age 7-13, looking at energy and energy conversions) and Light up your life (age 6-11, light and colour).
