This is a first attempt by an ICT <question-record><question></question><answer><text>novice</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>beginner</clue></question-record> to produce a cloze activity for pupils to use on the web. We are hoping to use them in lessons, and as extension and <question-record><question></question><answer><text>homework</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>after hours</clue></question-record> exercises.

1. Type in the <question-record><question></question><answer><text>text</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>words on a page</clue></question-record>.
2. Highlight a word you want to be a <question-record><question></question><answer><text>gap</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>the bit you have to fill in</clue></question-record>.
3. Click on the gap tool. It will ask you for a <question-record><question></question><answer><text>clue</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>hint to the answer</clue></question-record>, and if there are any acceptable alternative answers.
4. You can add pictures, tables and other fancy things - but that will be for my next attempt!
5. To finish go to File and <question-record><question></question><answer><text>Save</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>command for keeping your file</clue></question-record>, then Create Webpage.
6. You can alter the JCloze file and update the webpage later if you want to.
7. If you want to you can list the gap <question-record><question></question><answer><text>words</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>what's missing</clue></question-record> in your text, but that's up to you.
8. You can make your Hot Potatoes activity freely available on the <question-record><question></question><answer><text>web</text><feedback></feedback><correct>1</correct></answer><clue>internet</clue></question-record> by going to File and Export for WebTC.
9. Now I'm feeling confident, how about adding a weblink?!? Go to Insert and Link and...

Get Hot Potatoes <a href="http://www.halfbakedsoftware.com" target="_blank">here:</a>

Now, writing their own quizzes would be a great exercise for my classes...
