An assembly can raise the profile of science in your school. The aim of the ASE assembly series is to make pupils more aware of their need for scientific understanding in the world outside school. This assembly focuses on the role of zoos. A basic speech is provided that discuses the work done by Chester Zoo, Cheshire. To illustrate this assembly you could use a number of images from the Zoos activity on this website.

There are three ways in which this resource could be used:

  • A headteacher, head of year or science teacher could present the assembly speech.
  • Pupils could use the speech as a stimulus to present their own views on zoos.
  • Pupils could develop the play character profiles into a drama production considering various opinions on the place of zoos in society. There are a number of play scripts provided on this website which could be helpful for pupils designing their own short scripts e.g. Top of the Crops, Footprints, What if everyone did that?
