Science Across the World is the international flagship programme of Glaxosmithkline in partnership with The Association for Science Education. It provides a forum for students aged 10 to 17 years to exchange facts and opinions with students in other countries.

Students use a unique series of compact resource topics on environmental and social science issues that have been developed by educators, together with independent experts on the issues concerned.

There are three units on this CD ROM:

Renewable Energy develops learning and communication skills about energy sources and use across Europe.

Global Solar Partners is a unit developed with the help of BPAmoco. It encourages pupils to learn about and exchange ideas about solar energy use.

Plug in the Sun is a series of practical activities mainly using cheap photovoltaic cells. This resource was edited by Dr. Paul Rowley, of CREST (Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology) at the University of Loughborough.

Simplicity of communication is the key to the success of the programme, and it is this global exchange process, by post, fax, email, and increasingly through the Science Across the World website, that makes this programme different and stimulating to hundreds of students and educators alike.

Starting as Science Across Europe in 1990, this flexible programme has expanded to Asia Pacific, Africa, America, and most recently to Latin America. In each region we have developed extensive collaborations with highly regarded educational partners to bring the programme to grass roots levels in schools.

The resources for all our topics are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese languages. Some of the topics are available in many more European and Asian languages, including Japanese. If you require the resources in another language, please contact Science Across the World. Details are in the Teacher Notes on the PDF files.
