Would any of your pupils want to win a flying lesson, a trip to France, a week at sea… The list goes on, thanks to The Royal Institute of Navigation Annual Young Navigators Competition.

Aiming to encourage young people to take an interest in navigation, the competition is open to anyone aged 9-23 years. Entrants submit a project report, choosing any subject that demonstrates an understanding of what navigation means. Information for submissions may be obtained from any source, including the Internet, libraries, school projects, practical experience during expeditions, travel, etc.

This year the very impressive prize list includes:

  • Cross the Channel for a weekend (school prize)
  • Flying lessons
  • Mapping and exploring software
  • Fly a T-33 jet trainer
  • Fly Shuttleworth Trust aircraft
  • Fly at RAF Cranwell
  • Fly with the Air Cadets
  • Week at sea on an Irish Lights tender
  • Hand-held GPS
  • Marine VHF transmitter/receiver
  • Large photographic atlases
  • Glider lesson
  • Visit the Royal Navy
  • Visit the world's most advanced ship simulator (school prize)
  • Compasses
  • Week at sea with the training ship Royalist
  • Day at sea with the Royal Ocean Racing Club

Every entrant receives a Participation Certificate from the Royal Institute of Navigation. There are special prizes and certificates for schools and groups.

The Royal Institute of Navigation has provided a PowerPoint presentation that will demonstrate these amazing prizes to your pupils.
