Lots of advice on how to plan and organise a science
fair. The text takes anyone thinking of planning an
event through the process of determining aims and objectives
to make sure you REALLY want to do it! There are suggestions
on how to involve colleagues and how to time the event.
Sample letters to parents, newspapers and local industry
help you to get support and sponsorship. There are forty
themed activity cards for children from ages 3-11, which
can be printed out. The activity cards are grouped below
according to age range, but each one is also assigned
to one of the themes. The cards usually have a key question
to start the activity and further comments, guidance
and questions to help the children work through the
activities. Each activity is designed to be a bit different
from the usual classroom science lessons. No specialist
equipment is required. To go with each activity card
are Teacher's Notes outlining:
- The intended age range and theme.
- The objectives and resources needed.
- Notes on how to manage the activity.
- Key questions to help you develop the activity.
- Suggestions of how the resultant learning could
be recorded.
