5.1 Solids, Liquids and Gases
A range of interactive and print-out practical activities to help children understand the properties of solids, liquids and gases and the changes that take place when materials are heated.

5.2 Kitchen Chaos
The chef has muddled his cooking ingredients. Using the clues provided, pupils work on each test tube containing an unknown substance in order to identify the contents. Pupils learn the simple properties of common household chemicals in a fun context.

5.3 Investigating Ice
An investigation into melting ice developed across three age groups, 5-7 years, 7-9 years and 9-11 years. Full guidance is given on managing the activity, including starter questions and assessment criteria.

5.4 Baking Bread
An extract from the Oxfam photopack, Photo Opportunities Science. A colour photograph of bread making in Peru is the stimulus for children to make and investigate bread, using the worksheets provided.
