6.1 Concept Cartoons
A new approach to teaching, learning and assessment
in science, Concept Cartoons feature cartoon-style drawings
showing different characters arguing about everyday
situations. This computer-based version is designed
to intrigue, to provoke discussion and to stimulate
scientific thinking about freezing.
6.2 Mr. Zippy's New Trainers
An interactive animation that requires younger children
to choose aspects of trainers that will keep Mr. Zippy's
feet dry and help him to run fast. The children then
design their own trainer on screen.
6.3 Experience the Moon
Extending the learning of more able pupils by challenging
their intellectual capabilities. The pupils use independent
research skills to produce a well-reasoned analysis
of a travel poster for holidays on the Moon, in order
to produce a travel brochure that is informative and
scientifically correct.
6.4 Classroom Tuned Percussion
A four part unit, including teachers' notes and practical
activities, that enables pupils to explore the properties
of a range of materials and link them to their uses
through investigating tuned percussion instruments.
6.5 Kites
An exploration of the variety of kite designs around
the world, together with the scientific principles that
keep kites aloft. A fun way of exploring some types
of forces through making and flying kites.
6.6 Gravity and Space Traffic Lights
A quick revision game on gravity and space that also
enables the teacher to assess the effectiveness of the
teaching and level of knowledge and understanding in
the class.
6.7 Speed Pairs
A game where pupils put together the start and end of
a scientific statement. The activity reinforces pupils'
knowledge of aspects of electricity, forces and motion,
and light and sound.
