'Kites' explores the variety of kite designs around
the world, together with the scientific principles
that keep kites aloft. It provides a fun way of
exploring some types of forces. There is a strong
multi-cultural element through looking at kites
around the world. There are also strong links
to the design and technology curriculum. The unit
provides another context for the development of
pupils' literacy skills.

The unit is in three parts:
- Kites around the world.
- How does a kite fly?
- Making and flying kites.
These are designed to help children learn about the
wide variety of form and function of kites around the
World, and explore the simple forces that act on their
own model kites. The pupils are encouraged to develop
investigative skills whilst using and developing scientific
knowledge and understanding. There is advice on managing
the unit, full teachers' notes and a set of activity
cards to print out for the pupils.
